Pre-Conference Workshop

SHEA is pleased to hold a half-day workshop before the conference on April 7, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. local time.

The workshop will feature both didactic learning and breakout group work among participants.

From Algorithms to Action: Optimizing Use of AI in Infection Prevention and Antimicrobial Stewardship
This hands on 3-hour workshop will equip infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship teams with knowledge and skills to use modern AI tools.  The workshop will start with a primer on the fundamentals of generative and agentic AI and then move into real world case studies and demonstrations that show how these technologies could be incorporated into clinical workflows. Attendees will apply what they learn in small group exercises in both infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship.  No prior coding experience is required, just bring your clinical expertise, eagerness to learn, and a laptop.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss and practice high impact AI use cases in infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship
  • Define core concepts in AI technologies, comparing generative AI and agentic architecture and what may be available to attendees as free standing options vs embedded in the electronic medical record
  • Identify key opportunities and limitations of AI tools in the context of AS and IPC
